Hello everybody and welcome back to Everything Ham Radio!  Last month, I had wanted to start writing a monthly post about the first of the month and kind of review the previous month’s posts, what happened in my blog and podcast and plans for the next month. I totally missed the first of the month last month since I was in the process of moving still so I did just a basic information on my podcast episode on the 4/12/2016.
Posts from April 2016:
- April 1 – Why You Should Get Your Extra Class License – Dan Romanchik, KB6NU
- April 5 – ETH012 – Nets
- April 12 – ETH013 – National Traffic System
- April 19 – ETH014 – High Frequency(HF)
- April 26 – ETH015 – DXing
- I also had a weekly Solar Update by K7RA and DX News. Both are put out by the ARRL News system
As you probably noticed from this list, I didn’t have any blog posts per say, only podcast episodes. The episode show notes were blog posts in themselves though so I don’t feel so bad. However, I have been slacking because I did say that I was going to do two posts and week and have only been doing one.
Is It All About The Numbers?
Below are the “numbers†for my blog and podcast for the month of April:
- Page Views: 1486
- Visitors: 771
- Podcast Downloads: 2664
- Email List Subscribers: 55(+10)
- Facebook Fans: 196 (+5)
- Twitter Followers: 515 (+53)
News For The Month
So a couple things has happened to me in the past month. In March we moved into a new house and I have been SUPER busy getting unpacked, plus outside work, plus building a porch and walls and all kinds of fun things. Of course, all of this is on top of my 40 hour work week and taking care of 5 kids from 20 months to 11 years, ALL GIRLS!!
I received an email from someone the first part of the month asking me what they could do to help me financially? I have had a Paypal donate button on my About Me page where you can donate if you would like to. However, this person mentioned a service called Patreon. So I checked it out and figured, “What the heck…â€
So what is Patreon? Patreon is a service where you can support people on the service with a monthly or a per post method depending on how they have their page setup. I have mine set up on a monthly basis. You can pledge $1, $5, $10 or $25 a month. There are also rewards for each of those levels and I will be adding stuff to those rewards at a later date. If you would like to check out my Patreon page and possibly help me out with a pledge on any level, goto http://www.everythinghamradio.com/patreon/.
More Than Safe
So as most of yall know, since I have said it several times over the past year and a half, my wife and I are foster parents. It is a never ending cycle of kids coming in and going out. We started this in August of 2014 and we are on our 14th placement! These kids have needs that we work so hard to meet and their needs are more than your typical kids needs because someone they love has done something that had caused some stranger to come and say that they can’t live with their parents anymore.
This could go two ways from there, one they love their parent unconditionally and think that everyone else is lying to them and rebel. Two they could just be extremely sad and not sure how how to feel. This causes them to either feel nothing or feel too much and that makes our job as foster parents that much more…ha…exciting, yea let’s go with that word.
So after hearing me talking about blogging for the past year and a half, my wife decided that she wanted to try her hand at this whole blogging thing. The things that we have learned over the past nearly two years and the experiences we have had could help someone else, so she asked me to get it set up for her and help her with it sometimes by writing posts from my(a dad’s) point of view.
So I did. So far most of the posts are about our journey starting out in the foster care system, but we are going to be writing some other posts that talk about different issues that we have had and ways that we have helped the kids out so that will translate over to the average parent as well. So please, my faithful reader, please head over to More Than Safe (http://www.morethansafe.com) and show my wife some love and if you are interested in what you see, please subscribe to her site, she would SOOO love that!
New Name, Same Great Podcast!
Hamradio 360 PodcastNo I’m not talking about my podcast! I think my podcast name is pretty darn good as it is! If you listen to the Fo-Time Podcast regularly, you would know this already. However, last Tuesday, April, 26, 2016, Episode #50 aired for the Fo-Time Podcast and it was announced that the Fo-Time Podcast is getting a name change and a face lift.
They are rebranding the podcast to Hamradio 360 Podcast! New website, new approach on that website but same great group of guys, Cale, George and Jeremy and same great podcast experience. If you haven’t listened to the podcast before, go and check it out.
Packtenna Mini Giveaway!
The last piece of news that we have for this month is thanks to George, KJ6VU from PackTenna! If any of yall listen to the HamRadio 360 Podcast, you will have heard of George. A couple weeks ago, I contacted George to see if he could give me a coupon code or something that I could put out on the next two episodes of my podcast because they are over SOTA and NPOTA which is exactly what the PackTenna was designed for!
However, rather than giving a coupon code, he offered to give me one free to give away to one of my listeners on the show! Isn’t that just awesome!!! So there you have it! Over the next two episodes, I will be telling you how you could enter to win you very own PackTenna Mini so please tune into the podcast to find out how you could win!
If you have not seen what the PackTenna mini is, you can go and check it out on their website(affiliate link) or listen to the interview they did on Episode #23 of the HamRadio 360(formerly Fo-Time) Podcast.
Even if you don’t win the giveaway, head on over to their website and buy something from them.
