Hello everybody and welcome back to the Everything Ham Radio Podcast! We are fastly approaching episode 100! Since it is such a big number, I wanted to take some time and look back over the past 100 episodes and talk about some of them.
NOTE: All the download numbers in this post is accurate as of March 5, 2018
Top 10 Most Download Episode
- Episode 76 – Software Defined Radios – Downloads: 2,788
This episode was the first of three times that I had Ria Jairam, N2RJ on my show. In this episode we talked about first off, what a software Defined Radio was and secondly what are some of the options out there to use them. We talked about several different types, but probably the brand that we talked about the most is the Flex Radio Systems Radios.
This conversation actually lead to the next episode I did with Ria about Remote Operations in episode 83. I don’t know which I had more fun with in that episode, the interview itself or the research leading up to it. Before we did the interview, Ria let me remote into her Flex Radio Systems Radio and operate through it from my laptop. It was soooo much fun!
- Episode 71 – Field Day with Ian Kahn, KM4IK – Downloads: 2,804
This episode was the first time that Ian saved my bacon, so to speak. I first interviewed Ian in episode 67, which we talk about later. I asked Ian on very short notice if he would come back on the show and talk with me about Field Day that was coming up soon.I had so much fun talking with Ian in this episode, and all the episodes that he has been on before and after this one.
In this episode, we talked about Field Day 2017. Ian was(don’t think he still is) in charge of his Club’s Field Day operation and he talked to me about what they do in his club.
- Episode 77 – Kickin It With the HR360:Workbench Podcast Crew – Downloads: 3,028
In this episode, I had George and Jeremy from then the Hamradio 360: WorkBench, the The Hamradio Workbench Podcast, on the show for some good conversation. We talked about using small computers in your hamradio experience, Hamvention, and what was going on in their podcast.
George and Jeremy have been some great friends while I have been doing the podcast. The have a great show that does a bi weekly deep dive into different topics in ham radio.
- Episode 41 – Morse Code – Downloads: 3,053
In this episode, I talk about several things dealing with Morse Code. Starting with it’s history, then moved on to different methods of learning it and then went into different types of keyers.
- Episode 28 – Mobile Installations – Download: 3,106
In this episode, I talked with Alan R. Applegate, K0BG. Alan is the guru of mobile radio installations! He has, I’m sure, hundreds of posts about installing, grounding, antennas and so much more on his website at http://k0bg.com/
- Episode 54 – Building Antennas – Downloads: 3,206
In this episode, I talked about how to build several different types of antennas.
- Episode 56 – Lightning Protection – Downloads: 3,232
The number 4 slot is on Lightning Protection. It goes right along with Building Antennas. I will admit that this episode has A LOT of great information in it.
- Episode 67 – I Think I Have The PSK31 Bug – Downloads: 3,663
This was the first time that I had Ian Kahn, KM4IK, on my show. Ian has become a great friend and has saved my bacon many times after this episode and we have become pretty good friends as well, I think. This episode held the number two spot for about six months or so I think.
I learned alot about PSK31 in this episode and I want soooo bad to be able to try it out for myself. Maybe one day.
- Episode 72 – Arduino Projects for Ham Radio – Downloads: 3,952
In this episode I talked with Glen Popiel, KW5GP, author of the books:
Glen is an awesome guy and Funny to boot. He had me rolling several times throughout my interview with him, I even had to cut out the times that I was laughing so hard it took me a while to regain my composure!
- Episode 53 – Stealth Antennas – Downloads: 4,278
My number one episode was one that I really didn’t expect, although I probably should have. I expect that my best episodes are ones that are the interview style ones, but this one was just me. I totally understand why though, Stealth Antennas is a very big subject because there are a lot of hams out there that live in places where you can’t put a big antenna outside.
This episode is based on a post on QRZ that lists out 10 different ideas for antennas that are stealthy. Of course I got permission from the author of that post to use his information. I only wish I could have, at the time, did an interview with him about it instead of doing it all myself.
I have learned so much over the past 2+ years of this podcast, and there is so much more that I want to learn. Looking over the list of all my episodes, I’ve been trying to figure out which one was my favorite. It is a really hard decision to make. I have had so many great conversations with people. If I had to choose one of them, I would say that it would have to be Episode 70 – Remote Controlled Vehicles or pretty much any episode that I have done with Ian Kahn. Ian is such a hoot and we laugh and cut up A LOT!
Most Surprising Episode(s)
There are a couple episodes that always seem to amazing me how they do and the kind of feedback that I get from them. These episodes are Episode 1 – DStar, Episode 4 – DMR. Why these episodes surprise me is they were the first ones that I ever recorded and they were AWFUL! I hadn’t gotten “my groove” yet and didn’t do my due diligence on research so I had some wrong information. Even to this day, I still get comments saying things like “You said this wrong” or “That is not correct”.
On top of that, I still get a good amount of traffic to the show notes of these pages and Episode 2 – System Fusion

As yall know, I’m sure, I have been making signs for my listeners for a couple months now. I have a few and have really enjoyed myself doing it. You may also know that I have been trying to find a way to bring in some extra money for my family after we adopted our 4 kids back in July.
They say that if you do what you love you will love you job. That is very true. I love what I do and I love my job, most of the time. I also love doing woodworking, so why not do that to bring in some extra money for my family, right? So that is what we are doing. My wife and I are starting our own business, making handcrafted items, more than just signs.
I am in the process of making a website for it, and plan to launch it March 1st. Until then, if you looking for something with your call sign on it to put in your ham shack? Maybe you are wanting something that you can put outside you RV while you are camping with your name on it. How about a sign that has a quote on it of some sorts.
I have done a soft launch of the website right now, it is up and running and available to use. However, I do not have all the items on it yet and some of the descriptions and stuff are missing. Please feel free to check it out and see some of the sign designs that I have listed on there. You can find it at http://www.2xcproducts.com. You can also shoot an email to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know what you are interested in and I will get you setup with a reasonably priced item.
