Yaesu FT-8900R Quad Band Mobile Review

Share

Hey everybody and welcome back to Everything Ham Radio. In this post we are going to be reviewing the Yaesu FT-8900R. This mobile radio is a quad band mobile radio featuring 10 m, 6 m, 2 m, 70 cm.

It has multi levels of power output with a max output of 50 W on 10m, 6m, and 2m and 35 W output on 70cm.

It comes with a separation kit which allows you to mount the radio in a different location than the face plate and microphone. This makes it really nice when it comes to installing this radio in a newer vehicle that has limited space in the cab.

This radio has a true dual band receiver, allowing you to listen to both sides of the radio at the same time. It also allows you to listen two two of the same band at the same time.

This radio has a fairly good rating on Amazon featuring a 4.0 star rating with 13 reviews. On MTCRadio.com it features a 5.0 star rating but with less reviews.

One of the reviews on Amazon states that he feels that the volume/squelch knobs are to small and that it is hard to adjust the squelch without changing the volume as well.

He also stated that the volume that came out while listening to an AM frequency was significantly louder than when he listened to an FM frequency.

Both of these issues were from the same person. Other than this one review there was two reviews that said the radio was DOA. Other than these three reviews all the other customer reviews were 5 stars and all said great things about the radio.

Were these two reviews simply lemons? What about the knobs, are they to small? If you have one of these radios or have used one, please leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts on this radio.

Thank you for checking out this review, please share this post and/or video with your friends that might be in the market for an new radio.

Until next time…
