Who Is The Newly Elected North Texas Section Manager?

This newly elected ARRL Section Manager is right here in my home section, North Texas. He is from a small little Texas town called Ben Franklin, TX. It is located in an unincorporated area of Delta county, about 77 miles northeast of Dallas. At its peak it has 1000 people living in it, back in 1890. Over the years it had waxed and waned and as of 1990, it had a whopping 75 people living there. It has since climbed to a little over 200. But this history lesson is not why you are reading this post, so let’s get to that…

The newly elected North Texas Section Manager is Steven Lott Smith, KG5VK. He received 714 votes. His opponent, Ken Mitchell, KD2KW, received 576 votes.

So who is Steven Smith?

  • Licensed since 1972, currently hold the Extra Class FCC Amateur Radio License
  • Long time ARRL Member
  • Recognized as an A1OP (A1 Operator) by my fellow Radio Amateurs and nominated 12 December 2018, Award pending.
  • Past President and Board Member of the Shreveport Amateur Radio Association Shreveport / Bossier City Louisiana
  • Current member of the Lone Star DX Association (LSDXA)
  • Current member of Dallas Fort Worth Contest Group (DFWCG)
  • Current member of CW OPS #1806
  • Recipient of 5 band DXCC Award, 328 current Entities confirmed towards DXCC Honor Roll
  • Retired from the United States Air Force in 1993.
  • Built Lott’s Photography Business Bossier City Louisiana, upon retirement from the USAF
  • Taught Photography at Bossier Parish Community College from 2001 to 2014
  • 2015 Moved from Louisiana to North Texas
  • Worked at Main Trading Co. Paris Texas from 2015-2018

I have read some of his blog posts and his plans for the section during his time as section manager and I must say that I’m excited. I haven’t seen a whole lot of activity from our current/last section manager.
